Niall Murphy – Fiddle Workshop

10.30 am – 12.30pm and 1.30 – 3.30pm

In Kilbroney Integrated Primary School

Hailing from Camlough, Co.Armagh, Niall is quite simply one of the finest fiddle players ever to lay bow on string.

A multi-award winner, Niall won the All Ireland senior fiddle title in 2012 having previously annexed the Junior Fiddler of Oriel title in 2009, graduating to the Senior Oriel title the following year.

In 2011 Niall repeated his Oriel success and went on to win the much coveted 1st place in the Fiddler of Dooney competition. Niall is also the recipient of a prestigious BBC2 Young Folk Musician Award.

Always seeking to develop his technique, and to explore and expand the possibilities and potential of his instrument, Niall continues to push the boundaries.

His ingenious version of Michael Jackson’s “ Thriller “ has become quite an internet sensation with over 300,000 “hits”.

Niall currently tours with the Cara Dillon band and is a member of the wonderful “ Breaking Trad “. Although he has shared the stage with a stellar array of musicians including the likes of the Chieftains, Van Morrison, Richard Thompson and Alison Krauss & Union Station, Niall’s feet remain firmly planted on the ground and his roots and heart remain in Irish traditional music.
