Dave, Padraig & John
Guests of Na Píobairí Uilleann
Three of Leitrim’s finest musicians, John McCartin, Dave Sheridan and Padraig McGovern.
Fiddlers green festival would like to welcome three of Leitrim’s finest musicians, John McCartin, Dave Sheridan and Padraig McGovern. This trio have performed together from a young age and recently formed the band “Garadice” with Eleanor Shanley. All four artists were involved in the Leitrim Equation 4 project, a two year music residency where they researched and recorded many old Leitrim tunes and songs, some of which hadn’t been heard for over 200 years. These three musicians are a prime example of the how the Leitrim tradition is alive and well in the present day.
John McCartin hails from the village of Newtowngore in Co. Leitrim. His multifaceted approach to backing coupled with his upbeat rhythmic style has seen him play with many supergroups of Irish Music such as Lúnasa, Dervish, Eleanor Shanley and Dónal Lunney.
Dave Sheridan is a multi instrumentalist. Following the release of his debut album, Sheridan’s Guesthouse, he was described by Hot Press as having “a highly accomplished free flowing fluid style, with sound technique and solid driving rhythm”. He recorded a second highly acclaimed album, Drivin’ Leitrim Timber and has recorded and performed with many high profile acts including De Danann and Téada.
Padraig McGovern hails from Ballymagovern, a townland on the Cavan/Leitrim border. He has recorded with numerous artists over the last decade including a highly accredited duet album with Peter Carberry entitled “Forgotten Gems”. Padraig recently participated in the highly acclaimed multi-disciplinary project “The Pipes The Pipes” devised by Dónal Dineen. With fellow pipers Leonard Barry and Maitiú O’Casaide and visual artists Lionel Palun and Guillermo Carrion, the show paid homage to the instrument, the old pipers, current pipers and also offered an insight into the future of piping.
