The Sands Family SOLD OUT

The Sands Family, the back bone of the Fiddlers Green Festival.

THE SANDS FAMILY – Sun 30th July

Born, bred and based in County Down, Ireland, The Sands Family have been singing and playing music for as long as we can remember. The band played a significant part in the creation of the phenomenal world-wide interest in Irish folk and traditional music. They have been the inception and Nucleus of the Fiddlers Green Festival and have supported it every year for the last 30!

The Sands Family’s skillful mix of traditional Irish music and song with their own thought- provoking compositions propelled them to stardom, winning awards worldwide, spawning tribute bands in Europe and America, and focusing international attention on the rich cultural heritage of their home. Renowned as performers, writers and presenters, Anne Ben, Colum and Tommy Sands have remained at the centre of Irish music for a generation and show no evidence of running out of inspiration, enthusiasm or energy.
Their professionalism lies in allowing their audience to become participants in, rather than observers of, a unique cultural experience

They grew up on a small farm in the townland of Ryan near the village of Mayobridge, a few miles from the town of Newry. Their parents, Mick and Bridie, both came from families of singers, musicians and storytellers and encouraged a love of Irish culture and tradition in their seven children.

Their house on the Ryan Road was a “ceili house” – a focal point – and neighbours from nearby farms as well as musical wanderers from much further afield often gathered around the fireside for long winter evenings of song, music, “craic” and merriment.

They have graced concert halls and venues all over the globe and we welcome them again to close the festival in style.
