Kate Murphy Music School- Bodhrán

The Kate Murphy Fiddler’s Green School of Music

Kilbroney Integrated School,  Cloughmore Rd.

Attendees to the Music School are reminded that these sessions are intermediate to advanced level and you must bring your own instrument.

For Kate Murphy, music was an endless source of joy, comfort, mystery and challenge.

She loved music in all its genres, but had a special affection for folk and traditional music, particularly that of the wooden flute.  Kate was a wonderful teacher, facilitator and advocate of music and was “instrumental “ in setting up our school which, in her honour, will be henceforth known as ‘ The Kate Murphy Fiddler’s Green School of Music ‘

John Joe Kelly: Thu 25th July
Born in Manchester to Irish parents, John Joe Kelly started playing music as young boy with the local branch of Comhaltas in Manchester along with many other well known musicians such as Mike McGoldrick, Dezi Donnelly, Martin Meehan and Peter Carberry. Since those early days he has become one of the most sought-after bodhrán players on the folk music scene today. A member of Flook and Mike McGoldrick bands among others, John Joe’s playing has become legendary throughout the traditional scene and he is constantly expanding the boundaries of what beats and sounds you can get from one simple drum. He has been involved in many world music collaborative projects with musicians varying from Tim O’Brien, Kate Rusby, John McSherry, Dan Tyminski to Zakir Hussain.
